Are you interested in costume making? We are excited to announce that we have two free places allocated for a weekend carnival costume masterclass up for grabs from New Carnival.
The workshop will be led by Melissa Simon Hartman, esteemed international costume designer. Melissa’s work spans carnival, theatrical costumes, fashion, and the music industry. She has her own carnival group, ‘Legion Mas’, based at Notting Hill carnival but featuring around the world. Melissa has created costumes for Beyonce, the Black is King film, Doja Cat in the video ‘woman’ and Little Mix among many others. She recently worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, designing, and creating costumes for Much Ado About Nothing.
New Carnival are thrilled that Melissa will be sharing her skills and expertise in this weekend workshop where the group will help to create a new large signature carnival costume for New Carnival inspired by the Islands carnival traditions and the Biosphere Reserve status.
