Every month Brave Island runs a Young Creative of the Month fund, where we spotlight a local young creative with an interview on our blog, and support them with funding of £100. For October, it’s photographer Scott Martin. This fund launches at the beginning of every month, you can apply to be Young Creative of the Month for November here.
Please can you tell us about your creative practice?
I have been lucky to go to the Isle of Wight Festival with Scouts to help with love your tent (family camping). I have done that for 2 years now and every time I have spare time there I go and take photos of the artist performing when I am in the crowd. I also had some of my photos in the County Press when Riverfest 2025 was on. Another event I went to is Ventnor Fringe 2025 and took some photos promoting the event with Brave Island.

How did you first get into photography?
I got into photography in lockdown 2020 when everyone was not allowed to go outside. So I had a small digital camera and started taking photos of wildlife and plants in my garden. And in 2024 at the Isle of Wight Festival I started taking photos of live performances like Green Day and The Prodigy as I saw them perform there. From now on I really like going to see live music artists and taking photos of them and promoting their talent to the island.
Do you have a dream artist, event or otherwise you’d love to photograph?
My dream is to hopefully take photos backstage or in the photo pit at the Isle of Wight Festival as that would be my goal in photography. The artist I would like to photograph is Kaiser Chiefs backstage or on stage as I have never seen them live before but I listen to their albums and maybe other artists. I would like to photograph on stage Linkin Park as I am a big fan of them it would be my dream to see them live. I would hopefully want to go to gigs at Strings or Platform One and take photos of their shows.
