Every month Brave Island runs a Young Creative of the Month fund, where we spotlight a local young creative with an interview on our blog, and support them with funding of £100. For July it’s musician Steven Parkman. This fund launches at the beginning of every month, you can apply to be Young Creative of the Month for September here.
Please can you tell us about your creative practice?
I am a bass player in a local band called The Lords and student at platform one and looking to raise money for a suitable bass amp.
I also like fixing instruments like guitars and basses and hope to become a trained luthier someday. I originally started to have an interest in fixing instruments because I always wanted to be a mechanic on cars but I developed a vision imperfect which sadly stopped me from pursuing this career but I also enjoyed playing the guitar and the bass and had a love for music so I decided to put the 2 together and started repairing instruments.

What is your favourite performance that you’ve been a part of so far?
I have performed quite a decent amount of gigs not just on bass but on guitar to so I would have to say my favourite was probably one of my strings gigs with Platform one
I recently played The Bandstand at Ventnor Fringe with my band, The Lords and we also played at the East Cowes festival on the 6th of august on the main stage.
Where can people find your work if they’d like to support you?
Most of my work can be found here on my Instagram page.
