Studying an academic subject (health psychology masters) means I do not have the chance to express my creative side. Having an interest in psychology, I am keen to make sure that the mental healths of young people on the island are improved or looked after, which Brave Island is doing brilliantly. Which is why I would love to be part of the ideas panel as this would provide me the opportunity to help and grow. I would also love to meet new people and make new friends after such a hard year. I am full of ideas for opportunities that Brave Island could use, for example a performing arts summer program, where the teachers are volunteers (late teens or in their 20s) and students get to learn, develop and perform a showcase at the end of their journey. This could involve teaming up with various charities/organisations or Platform One. Volunteer teachers/camp counsellors could be from various background and have many different things that they can offer. Students/campers could try themselves in various areas of arts, such as playing an instrument, dancing, filming, acting etc. Could be like EF or Little Canada but for creative young people ran by young adults who remember being their age and can relate and show a good example. A show could be performed at the end with everyone to demonstrate what they have learnt, seen by parents and potential future campers who are intrigued. Guest performers could also be invited. This could be an overnight or day camp. In August, when the circus is here, perhaps they could teach the campers some circus tricks. If not performing arts, it could be a music camp. This would offer the camp counsellors an opportunity to grow and the campers to try new things, as well as provide the opportunity for everyone to make new friends after such a hard year. I have some connections with musicians, the circus and some friends. During the day there could be various activities, which offer the opportunity to learn a new skill, but also some challenges where they must work as a team. Being able to speak other languages (Hungarian, English and Spanish) and have psychological knowledge (positive psychology, benefits of interventions etc), this could also be offered. A portion of the income could also go to charity, eg. Mountbatten. I also have other ideas including workshops: dance classes for a specific age range (eg majorette, latin, hip hop etc), circus club, yoga/meditation for young people, teaching and learning new languages, magic workshop, become a show critic, direct an advert, a news program hosted by ages 14-25, a radio show, and make reviews of games (board games or video games). At the end of the day, I am very keen to meet new people and make new friends, and offer the same to others.
