Every month Brave Island runs a Young Creative of the Month fund, where we spotlight a local young creative with an interview on our blog, and support them with funding of £100. For January, it’s actor and musical theatre performer Charlotte Harfield. This fund launches at the beginning of every month, you can apply to be Young Creative of the Month for February here.
Please can you tell us about your creative practice?
Hello I’m Charlotte, a 17 year old actor and musical theatre performer currently studying at the Isle of Wight college studying Performing arts! My creative practice involves a busy life style but I love it since I never really know what I might be doing today and could randomly get called in to act in the background of a film 2 hours before they film or have one week to create and perfect a dance before I perform it on the beach. Being a creative person I always like to see how I can adapt and change my performances to make my audience happy. I like to write my own monologues and love the process of making a story within the piece, I also enjoy using other writers work to perform on stage. Another thing that is apart of my creative practice is musical theatre, I enjoy the process of working with others and creating performances collaboratively with friends and other companies, and cant wait to work with my class as we perform Percy Jackson and the lighting thief this term!
What would be your dream role, whether that be onstage or on screen?
My dream role would be, a role that is on TV so for example Netflix, Disney, BBC. I would love to be apart of a film or series on a big platform like these. I admire actors like Jennifer Laurence, Catherine Langford, Daniel Radcliffe and many more and hope to act as well as they do one day.
What are your creative ambitions for 2025?
My creative ambitions for 2025 would be to get into the acting universities that I would like to go to and to push my self to learn and perform more Shakespeare monologues since it would benefit my education in acting and over all knowledge. I would like to get my self involved in to more screen acting since screen acting is what I enjoy the most! Another creative ambition of mine this year is to make my own short film by the end of the year to showcase my abilities in acting.
