Every month Brave Island runs a Young Creative of the Month fund, where we spotlight a local young creative with an interview on our blog, and support them with funding of £100. March’s recipient is singer-songwriter Amy Jolliffe. This fund launches at the beginning of every month, you can apply to be Young Creative of the Month for April here.

Please tell us about your creative practice
I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist who combines 1960s folk influences with modern pop. My music is shaped by real-life experiences and inspired by the rural beauty and cultural heritage of the island. My song ‘Love Is’ was released this Valentine’s Day and is about what love means to different people. I taught myself to play guitar at just eleven years old, and I have been performing live for six years. I recently graduated from Platform One Music College with a First Class Honors in Commercial Music. I have performed at the Wolverton Folk & Blues Fair, Ventnor Fringe and Isle of Wight Festival.
Who or what are your biggest inspirations for your music?
I have loved music since I was young and grew up listening to my Dad’s record collection. I am inspired by 1960s folk artists, including Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel. However, I also look up to contemporary artists such as Flyte, Fenne Lily and Maggie Rogers.

What are your creative ambitions for 2025?
I have performed at the Isle of Wight Festival four times, and I hope to return there again this year! I am also planning to apply for the Wight Noize competition, where the winner will perform on the main stage at the festival. I have performances lined up throughout the year, which I am so excited to announce, and I am looking forward to recording and releasing more songs.

Where can people find your work if they’d like to support you?
My music is available on all major streaming platforms. You can also follow me on Facebook and Instagram, where I regularly post updates about upcoming performances, song releases and more.
