Each month we round up five of the most exciting opportunities currently available for young people living on the Isle of Wight, whether that’s from Brave Island or from other organisations we think you should get involved with! Check out the top picks for December below.
West Wight Arts Association Bursary – Money for your Musical Career
Are you aged between 11 and 21 and have a passion for music? West Wight Arts Association (WWAA) are once again taking applications for their Bursary Scheme, which has a long tradition of supporting young musicians on the Isle of Wight. Previous recipients have received funding for buying instruments, paying for exams, or travelling to lessons.
To apply for this bursary, fill out the application form on the WWAA website and send it in before Monday 15th January 2024. Good luck!
The Workshop Project – Exciting workshops at Dimbola!
The Workshop Project are running a series of creative workshops, all exploring local and sustainable material use, whilst remaining accessible and reproducible so you can recreate these processes at home! Running these workshops are George and Maddy, both 23 year old recent art graduates, currently the artists in residence at Dimbola. The workshops run until late January.
These workshops are being held at Dimbola Museum and Galleries in Freshwater, using their gallery, library and darkroom space. For more information and to book your place, click here.
Christmas Sewing Workshop – Create your own Christmas Bunting
Stitch Department will be running a FREE family sewing workshop on the 16th December where you will learn how to create your very own bunting using pieces of scrap material. Stitch Department is a Ryde based clothing practise that is passionate about the environmental impact of the fashion and textiles industry. Please note that while this is a free event, they will be collecting for The Samaritans so please do donate if you can.
Paid Content Creation for Gig
Fancy yourself as a content creator? EarsPeeled are looking for someone to create an Instagram reel for their annual Christmas gig at Strings. You’ll need to capture a mixture of videos and photos on the night, and put them together in to one 30 second video to be shared as a reel on EarsPeeled’s social media. You’ll receive a free ticket for the event as well as being paid £50.
You can apply for this opportunity via the Brave Island listing here.
Young Creative of the Month
Tell us about your creative practice and we’ll give you £100! Each month we choose a ‘Young Creative of the Month’ to run an interview with on the Brave Island Blog and you’ll receive £100 in return to support what you do. There’s no catch, this isn’t a loan you have to pay back and you don’t have to write a long funding application!
