News: Top Five Opportunities in November

Each month we round up five of the most exciting opportunities currently available for young people living on the Isle of Wight, whether that’s from Brave Island or from other organisations we think you should get involved with! Check out our top picks for November below.

Life Drawing Workshop

Our monthly skills workshop for November is a free Life Drawing workshop at Quay Arts. Join artist Caroline Underwood as she leads you through the incredibly valuable skill that is drawing from a live model. It’s highly recommended as it improves your observation, coordination, and drawing skills.

The focus isn’t on the quality of the work, but on building your skills, it’s also great for relaxation! The life model for this workshop will be clothed, rather than nude, meaning this workshop will be open to ages 14-25.

Future Works

Future Works is back! This is an event run by Platform One, IW Creative Network and Brave Island. Taking place at Strings Bar & Venue in Newport, we will have a panel discussion based around performing arts, followed by time to network and make connections with like-minded young people on the Island. It’s open to young people aged 16-30 and is totally free!

We’ll hear from Writer & Actor Joe Bone, Circus Performer and Creative Projects Assistant at Ventnor Exchange and New Carnival Kai Davies, and Creative Director from Wonderfell Theatre Company Vicky Wells.

Callout for Artist Residency

The Solent Seascape Project (SSP) is looking for a new resident artist to help share the importance of, and challenges faced by, the Solent’s coastal areas. The call out is open to Artists aged over 21 and there is no limitation on which Artform you work in. However, it is vital that as part of this residency you will be working directly with the local community and create new art work(s) in response to the unique people and place of the Solent seascape.

The SSP area covers over 52,000 hectares of coastal and marine habitats in the Solent, one of the most heavily used waterways in Europe. It houses incredible habitats including seagrass meadows, oyster reefs and seabird nesting sites. Unfortunately, the Solent continues to face severe threats from overuse, erosion, poor water quality and sea level rise. The projects aims to fight these threats and work to restore habitats, and raise awareness of the Seascape’s importance across the Solent area.
