Are you looking for an opportunity to gain some work experience? Would you like to see what it’s like to try out different jobs? Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of organisations to offer placements, which are perfect if you’re looking to learn new skills and improve your CV.

The Family Fringe Assistant Placement is hosted by New Carnival. You will be supporting New Carnival to help run the kids area at Ventnor Fringe, so we’re looking for a young person wanting to gain some experience working with children or running an event.

Ventnor Fringe is the Island’s largest arts festival, running for 10 days between Friday 17th and Sunday 26th July, there’s over 100 different shows from theatre and comedy to music and circus. New Carnival are a community carnival company who are running the Family Fringe (kids area) on both weekends of the festival, which welcomes roughly 100 children aged 5-12 each day with a whole host of activities on offer.

What’s involved?

  • Helping with prep for activities at New Carnival before the event
  • Support with setting up and packing down each day
  • Help facilitate the activities during the event such as craft workshops or glitter tattoos
  • Assist with checking tickets

By getting involved you could…

  • Gain valuable hands on experience of working on events and with children
  • Grow your confidence by interacting with a variety of different people including children and other team members
  • Learn what goes into prepping for a busy event
  • Gain a variety of skills and experience which will be useful to take forward into other roles
  • Get a great reference for your CV

You don’t require any previous experience but this role will suit you if you…

  • Have an interest in working with children
  • Have good people skills and can communicate clearly
  • Can work well in a busy environment
  • Have an interest in learning about how events work
  • Enjoy meeting new and different people and working as part of a team

Practical info: This placement is open to those aged 16-25. You will receive £50/day to cover your expenses like food and travel. This placement is based in Ryde and Ventnor. Please email megan@ventnorexchange.co.uk if you have any questions. Please answer all questions below to apply.
