Currently studying art or thinking about going to an art school? Perhaps you’re looking to expand your portfolio or just want to gain some more skills. Everyone talks about how important life drawing is for aspiring artists, but we know it can seem daunting to go to a class! So we’ve organised a free life drawing class especially for Brave Island members, combined with time for you to chat with two artists to gain advice and guidance on your portfolio.
Life drawing is where you draw from a live model rather than a photograph. It’s highly recommended as it improves your observation, coordination, and drawing skills. You start by drawing a series of quick sketches where the model changes pose often, then a few drawings where you have more time to work on them. The focus isn’t on the quality of the work, but on building your skills, it’s also great for relaxation! If you want to read more about what to expect, you can read this post.
There will be time afterwards to chat with two professional artists, Nick Martin and Ian Whitmore, if you would specifically like advice on your portfolio or development then please bring some examples of your work with you, or you can use this time to learn more about the arts industry in general.
Practical info: To apply, please tell us why you would like to take part. All materials will be supplied (paper, pencils, charcoal), but if there’s anything in particular you would like to use then please feel free to bring it. Please note that the life drawing model will be nude, so this opportunity is for ages 16+. This opportunity takes place at Quay Arts in the Anthony Minghella Theatre.
Opportunity Date & Time: Monday 13th November, 1pm – 4.30pm (the life drawing class is from 1pm – 3pm if you don’t want to stay for the chat).
