Currently studying art or thinking about going to an art school? Perhaps you’re looking to expand your portfolio or just want to try out a new activity. Everyone talks about how important life drawing is for aspiring artists, but we know it can seem daunting to go to a class! So we’ve organised a free life drawing class especially for Brave Island members, led by local artist Caroline Underwood.
Life drawing is where you draw from a live model rather than a photograph. It’s highly recommended as it improves your observation, coordination, and drawing skills. You start by drawing a series of quick sketches where the model changes pose often, then a few drawings where you have more time to work on them. The focus isn’t on the quality of the work, but on building your skills, it’s also great for relaxation! The life model for this workshop will be clothed, rather than nude, meaning this workshop will be open to ages 14-25. To find out more about what to expect, you can read this post.
Caroline or a member of the Quay Arts team will also be able to offer advice on your portfolio during this workshop if you would like. If so, please let us know below, and please bring some examples of your work with you.
Practical info: To apply, please tell us why you would like to take part, as well as if you would like time to gain some portfolio advice from a member of the Quay Arts team. All materials will be supplied (paper, pencils, charcoal), but if there’s anything in particular you would like to use then please feel free to bring it.
Opportunity Date & Time: Saturday 23rd November, 1pm – 3pm.
