Interested in developing your skills in studio photography and film developing? We’ve planned a workshop with photographer George Budden where we’ll be learning about studio lighting using digital cameras, followed by working with film cameras and learning how to develop film.
We’ll start with a demo on studio lighting from George, where we’ll learn the various lighting modifiers, backdrops, and equipment including light meters and flash syncs. We’ll then have time to practise with digital cameras and a still life scene to get an idea of how the lighting works and the various modifiers.
For the second part of the workshop, we’ll learn to load 35mm and 120mm black and white film into various cameras, and then experiment with digital and film cameras on models as well as still life scenes. We’ll then learn to load film canisters and develop film.
This workshop takes place at Dimbola in Freshwater, which was home to famous Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. They currently have an exhibition of Lee Miller’s work, showcasing her war time fashion photography, which we will have the chance to explore whilst we’re there.
