We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements which will be available over the next two years.
The Record Shop Assistant Placement is a five day opportunity hosted by Ventnor Exchange. We’re looking for a young person wanting to gain some experience working in a retail environment, where you will be assisting in the preparation and delivery of Ventnor Exchange’s Record Store Day event.
Ventnor Exchange is an award winning arts organisation that hosts live events and runs venues, including a record shop and cafe/bar in Ventnor where this placement is based. Record Store Day is an annual celebration of the culture around independent record stores and one of Ventnor Exchange’s busiest days of the year where they have local artists performing and lots of people coming to buy records throughout the day.

What’s involved?
- Supporting the Record Shop manager with preparation for Record Store Day
- Uploading records to the Shopify till system and labelling them
- Putting together some marketing content like writing an article of your top picks from the releases
- Supporting with artist liaison for the Record Store Day event, welcoming artists and making sure everything runs smoothly
- Serving customers in the record shop and cafe/bar
