Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of organisations to offer placements, which are perfect if you’re looking to learn new skills and improve your CV.
This placement is hosted by Ventnor Exchange. We’re looking for a young person wanting to gain some experience working in a customer facing role, where you will be assisting in selling tickets and supporting the Front of House team at Ventnor Exchange during Ventnor Fringe, their biggest event of the year.
Ventnor Fringe is the Island’s largest arts festival, transforming the town with a whole host of boutique venues and pop-up bars. Running for 10 days between Friday 18th and Sunday 27th July, there’s over 100 different shows with a huge mix of theatre, comedy, music, circus, cabaret and exhibitions. Ventnor Exchange is a cafe/bar and record shop, and is the main information point and box office for the festival.
What’s involved?
- Selling tickets to customers using the festival’s box office system
- Recommending shows and helping curate audiences festival experience
- Answering audience questions about events such as show content or directions to venues
- Signposting to the relevant manager to assist with occasions where visitors have particular access needs, a complaint or other requests
- Supporting the Front of House team by taking orders and clearing tables

- Learn how to use software widely used across businesses and events such as Spektrix (box office) and Shopify (ecommerce)
- Grow your confidence by interacting with a variety of different people including artists and customers
- Gain a variety of skills and experience which will be useful to take forward into other roles

You don’t require any previous experience but this role will suit you if you…
- Have good people skills and can communicate clearly in order to ensure everyone has a great experience at the Fringe
- Have an interest in learning about how festivals or events work
- Are just getting started in the world of work and want to gain some experience
- Enjoy meeting new and different people and working as part of a team
Practical info: This placement is open to those aged 18-25. It is ten days long, and you will receive £50/day to cover your expenses like food and travel. This placement is based at Ventnor Exchange.
