We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements which will be available over the next two years.
The Exhibition Coordinator Placement is a six month opportunity hosted by Newport Minster. We’re looking for a young person interested in helping the newly refurbished Newport Minster to design new exhibitions and events, as well as sometimes joining the front of house team welcoming visitors. This placement will also involve some research trips to other churches which operate as successful event venues in London and Portsmouth.

What’s involved?
- Working alongside a small team to create exhibitions and plan events in the space
- Take part in a few research trips to other similar venues in London and Portsmouth and feedback ideas
- Researching and creating content for temporary exhibitions
- Working alongside the designer to create the look and feel of the exhibitions
- Sometimes working front of house which may include guided tours, welcoming visitors, and supporting events
- Working towards the Heritage Open Days festival in September 2025

- Have an interest in content creation and how we present information to different groups of people
- Would like to learn what it’s like to be part of a project team in a church, although you do not have to be religious and this placement is open to those of any faith or none. The role will focus on exhibitions and events
Practical info: This placement is open to those aged 16-25 at the start of the placement. It is one day per week for 6 months, and you will be paid a stipend of £100/day. This placement is based at Newport Minster in St Thomas’ Square with a few mainland trips included.
