News: Top 5 Opportunities in July

Each month we round up five of the most exciting opportunities currently available for young people living on the Isle of Wight, whether that’s from Brave Island or from other organisations we think you should get involved with! Check out our top picks for July below.

Create Short Film for Channel 4 News

We’re looking for a young filmmaker in their final year of sixth form or college, to produce a short film following theirs and their friends’ experiences of finishing compulsory education and exploring what comes next.

Channel 4 News is reporting on the story of young people’s ambitions for the future, what paths they take after compulsory education, and how this experience affects them. They are looking for a young filmmaker to produce a short film (5-7 mins) documenting this story. The film could follow the journey from the end of school into the autumn and what different paths this brings people on, for example some may go to University, some may find apprenticeships, some may go into work, or some may not have their next steps figured out.

Nature Safari: Citizen Science in the Calbourne Valley

Join the IW Biosphere Festival on Sunday 5th July for a Nature Safari: Citizen Science in the Calbourne Valley, a relaxed, youth-focused day at Calbourne Water Mill where you can explore local wildlife and take part in real citizen science.

Aimed at ages 16-25, the day includes hands-on activities – some designed and led by young people – offering a chance to build practical ID skills, connect with like-minded peers, and gain experience to highlight on a CV.

Tickets are free but booking is required. Book here.

United in Art Festival

United in Art is a free online festival created by young people, for young people, shaped by Artswork’s Youth Board.

This one-day event is designed to celebrate creativity from young voices across the UK.

United in Art is one of the ways Artswork’s Youth Board share their voices with the world.

Sunday 5th July, 11am – 6pm, held on Zoom. Book your free space here.
