We’re looking for a young filmmaker in their final year of sixth form or college, to produce a short film following theirs and their friends’ experiences of finishing compulsory education and exploring what comes next.
Channel 4 News is reporting on the story of young people’s ambitions for the future, what paths they take after compulsory education, and how this experience affects them. They are looking for a young filmmaker to produce a short film (5-7 mins) documenting this story. The film could follow the journey from the end of school into the autumn and what different paths this brings people on, for example some may go to University, some may find apprenticeships, some may go into work, or some may not have their next steps figured out.
We will provide support around producing the film (e.g. storyboarding, lending mics for better sound quality) and will be available to help and advise remotely and occasionally in person. You can film on whatever equipment is available to you (a phone is fine) but it’s essential that you and your friends feel comfortable talking to camera about your ambitions for the future! We’re also looking for a variety of different stories within your friend group.
Practical info: This opportunity is open to those finishing sixth form/college this summer (likely aged 17/18), living on the Isle of Wight. You must feel comfortable talking to camera (and convincing your friends to do the same!). Please tell us why you would like to apply for this opportunity, and share some of the stories you will tell in your film – what are you looking forward to/worried about for after you have finished this stage of your education?
Opportunity Date & Time: The film will be part of a report for Channel 4 News and will air either as a standalone report or as part of a wider package on television and online later in the year.
