Every month Brave Island runs a Young Creative of the Month fund, where we spotlight a local young creative with an interview on our blog, and support them with funding of £100. For August, it’s filmmaker and videographer Liam Downer. This fund launches at the beginning of every month, you can apply to be Young Creative of the Month for September here.
Please can you tell us about your creative practice?
I’m a filmmaker and videographer, and have worked on multiple projects on the Island. During my time at the IW College I was able to complete 2 Documentaries, as well as countless other projects, including a Music Video for a local artist.
What inspired you to get into filmmaking?
During the lock downs of 2020 I found myself spending much more time at home, but also walking around my local area. I started with some photography, but progressed into creating short films, inspired by the many pieces of work on Social Media that were being created by people in similar situations. I took this further when I chose to study Media after my GCSEs.
What would be your dream project?
I’d love to be able to work on larger scale documentaries, or to be able to cover live events on a much greater scale.
Where can people find your work if they’d like to support you?
I’m on Instagram and YouTube, @liamdownerfilmmaker.
