Christmas Card Competition 2024

Our Christmas card competition is back! We’re looking for a special Christmas card design which will be sold to raise money for Ventnor Community Foodbank. The cards will be sold across the Island and online so this is a great opportunity to get your work seen by lots of people!

Over the past few years of running the competition we’ve raised over £1,500 for Ventnor Community Foodbank, so this is a great opportunity to help support the community and there is a cash prize of £100 for the design that gets chosen.

Wreath Making Workshop

The next FREE workshop from New Carnival’s youth platform Isle of Creativity will be Autumn Wreath making with Gabby from Island CraftWorks. Create your very own wreath in a friendly environment at New Carnival’s workshop in Ryde. There’s even free food!

Museum Skills Workshop

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at a museum? Brave Island have teamed up with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway to bring you a free workshop focused on caring for and conserving items in the museum collection. Whilst the trains and carriages themselves are the first thing you may think of, they also hold an archive of thousands of items including tickets, documents and photographs which form an important historical record of over 150 years of Island railway history.

National Landscapes Commission

Isle of Wight National Landscape (the new name of Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is accepting entries for 45 original artworks to illustrate their new management plan. The artwork can be in any medium and showcase a location on the Island that falls within the National Landscape designation, if you aren’t sure, there is a list of locations available on their website. If you are successful, you work will also be displayed in an exhibition at Newport Minster in 2025.

When you’re ready to apply, you can submit your Artwork right here on the Brave Island Site!

Grants for youth-led climate change projects

Are you passionate about the environment and love exploring? The Woodland Trust are looking for innovative ideas from young people aged 16-25. For example these ideas could help create healthy woods, protect valuable habitats or inspire others to nurture the environment. If your application is successful, you will be supported by a team of conservation experts and funding of up to £6,000 to make your idea a reality. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in writing a funding bid and will look fantastic on any University or job applications.
