We teamed up with Grace’s Bakery to run a label design competition for their new baking kits. Grace’s Bakery were looking for a design for a cardboard ‘belly band’ label to go round the boxes for their new kits, which will be sold to raise money to aid local primary schools to run baking lessons for their students.
We had many amazing entries, and were blown away by the talent we have here on the Island. The team at Grace’s Bakery judged the designs and said that one entry in particular stood out, by Emily Wright, 16. They particularly liked that she thought about how her design could be adapted to be used for multiple recipes and used two of their iconic products as her inspiration: the Mr Blobby Biscuit and Gingerbread Man. It was simple and still fun and they felt it would appeal to a range of ages. Emily won herself a £150 cash prize, some Grace’s Bakery goods, and her design will be turned into a label and used on Grace’s Bakery’s baking kits.
The team at Grace’s Bakery also selected two runner ups, Tirzah Brown, 14, and Camryn Staley, 14. Tirzah’s design caught their eye as she created a pattern of cakes shaped like the Isle of Wight. Cowes and East Cowes were each topped with cream and fruits! We’re told that Tirzah has already landed logo design commissions for local businesses. Camryn’s design was very imaginative as it was a mixture of nautical and baking themes. We will be keeping an eye out on all three young creatives as we’re excited to see where they take their creative careers!
