Thank you! To everyone who took part in our very first Brave Island Young Artist Award Exhibition. Opening night was on the 12th of March, where young people aged between 14 to 25 submitted their artwork to be showcased in a professional setting, and will be displayed in the Ventnor Exchange gallery space until the 17th of April.
The winner of the very first Isle of Wight Young Artist Award 2022, is Aaron Mitchell (age 24) for his spectacular, abstract pen drawings. There was a lot of amazing artwork submitted to the award, of which were very different in styles and mediums including painting, textiles and photography and are all great candidates for winning. However, through careful consideration, a panel of judges chose a shortlist of work and ultimately decided on a winner for the Young Artist Award. In support of the exhibition, Brian Marriott designed and created a carved wooden plaque to be presented as the award.
For the majority of the participants, it was their first time showcasing their work for an exhibition outside of school, college or university. The Brave Island team organised the award as an important way for young Isle of Wight artists to exhibit their work to show off their skills and abilities and build confidence in a supportive environment.
