We have teamed up with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway to provide an exclusive opportunity for you to join their Rolling Stock team for a day. You’ll get to experience a day in the life of a rail engineer and learn some exciting skills you wouldn’t get the chance to elsewhere.
You will have the opportunity to work on their collection of locomotives, carriages, and wagons, many of which are well over 100 years old. Your experience will be as part of their workshop team, and will be based around the maintenance tasks they have underway during your visit. You will split your day between their Carriage & Wagon workshop and their Locomotive Engineering Workshop, trying out skills which could include heritage carpentry, coach painting, metalwork, mechanical and heavier engineering, and maintenance of rail vehicles.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in engineering or heritage skills, you don’t need any prior experience to take part in this opportunity but you do need a willingness to learn and to work with your hands.
