We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements which will be available over the next two years.
The Assistant Curator Placement is a six month opportunity hosted by Ventnor Heritage Centre. We’re looking for a young person interested in history and learning more about working with museum archives. The placement holder will help Ventnor Heritage Centre to catalogue, interpret and publicise the museum archive including digitising oral history records and helping present and promote information and artefacts.

What’s involved?
- Supporting the Curator to care for the collection with cataloguing, storage, interpretation and presentation to a local audience.
- Organising and maintaining the museum room so that artefacts are easily accessible.
- Digitising oral history tapes and determining the best method to make digital records available on demand in the museum and online.
- Collate research history to contribute towards a project around shops and premises in the town.
- Some design work to support this project such as posters and displays publicising the centre.

- Have digital/IT skills which will allow you to help digitise their oral history tapes (make available online), and design some posters/displays
- Enjoy meeting new and different people and working as part of a team
Practical info: This placement is open to those aged 18-25 at the start of this placement. It is one day per week for 6 months, and you will be paid a stipend of £100/day.
