We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements.
The Carisbrooke Castle Museum Placement is a six month opportunity hosted by Carisbrooke Castle Museum. We’re looking for a young person interested in learning more about working within a museum. The placement holder will learn about the different roles involved in running a small museum with a focus on digital storytelling and collections.
Here’s a little bit more about what the role involves, key dates and how to apply.
What’s involved?
- Plan, create, and schedule social media content
- Assist in developing content ideas and campaigns
- Learn and apply digital storytelling techniques to interpret museum objects for online audiences
- Work with Oral History collections, including sound editing, ensuring accurate transcriptions, choosing themes within interviews to support digital storytelling activities
- Undertake object-based research to support both internal records and public-facing digital content
- Support the digitisation of the museum’s collection
- Contribute to improving collections documentation
- Assist with the movement and preparation of objects for display, research, and storage
- Support the organisation and maintenance of collection stores, including environmental awareness and monitoring

Practical info: This placement is open to those aged 18-25 for the duration of the placement. It is one day per week for 6 months, and you will be paid a stipend of £100/day.
