Join us and the IW Creative Network for a free trip to Portsmouth, organised by Crying Out Loud. You’ll get an exclusive behind the scenes look at Stretch (an incredible sound sculpture), wander the citywide We Shine Community light festival, and connect with other creatives across the Solent area (IOW, Portsmouth, & Southampton).
Stretch is an interactive sound sculpture made from thousands of elastic strands under tension, created by Sophia Clist, Nick Burge, Theo Jackson Clist, and Jane Mason. It’s part sculpture, part instrument. Audiences find their own way through it, creating sound and imagery as they go, while movement artists improvise within it. No two visits are ever the same. We’ll enjoy a private viewing where you’ll meet artist Sophia Clist and the creative team to chat about how the installation came together.
Afterwards, we’ll explore the wider We Shine Community – Citywide Light Festival around Portsmouth, including the Memory Library at the Historic Dockyard.
If you’re aged 18-25 with any kind of creative practice, whether you’re a visual artist, musician, performer, maker, photographer, or just starting out, this trip is perfect for you to explore new ideas and build connections.
Practical info: This opportunity is completely free, including travel, and is open to those aged 18-25. To apply, please tell us why you would like to take part as well as a bit about your creative practice. You’ll need to make your own way to and from Ryde Pier Head, we’ll catch the 1.45pm Wightlink boat to Portsmouth, and return on the 7.20pm.
Opportunity Date & Time: Friday 20th November, 1.30pm – 7.45pm.
