Are you looking for an opportunity to gain some work experience? Would you like to see what it’s like to try out different jobs? We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements.
The Biosphere Festival Coordinator Placement is a six month opportunity hosted by the Biosphere Festival, a nine-day celebration of nature and community across the whole Island with events run by a range of local organisations, now in its third year. We’re looking for a young person who is passionate about nature and sustainability and is interested in learning more about events production, community building, and marketing.
Here’s a little bit more about what the role involves, key dates and how to apply.
What’s involved:

- Communicating with events organisers and stakeholders, answering questions and gathering programme data
- Writing the newsletter, press releases and other external communications
- Updating the Squarespace website with events listings
- Creating social media posts and collaborating on the overall comms strategy
- Using the photo and video collection to create promotional content

- Are interested in nature and sustainability, especially our local Isle of Wight natural history and environment

By getting involved you could…
- Have the opportunity to expand into areas of most interest

- Develop your communication skills
- Gain events coordination skills
- Have the opportunity to continue in this role longer term into future festivals
You will be joining a team of volunteers who run the festival, which takes place from 27th June – 5th July. The festival showcases all the brilliant work going on here that was so important in the Island getting UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in 2019. With around 50 mostly free or low cost events to enjoy, this festival includes walks, talks, art, music, films, nature tours, citizen science, craft sessions, open days at nature sites and more.
