Each month we round up five of the most exciting opportunities currently available for young people living on the Isle of Wight, whether that’s from Brave Island or from other organisations we think you should get involved with! Check out our top picks for March below.

Perform at Ventnor Exchange on Record Store Day!
With over 270 shops participating, Record Store Day is easily one of the biggest events in any music fan’s calendar. Record stores across the country mark the event by selling exclusive vinyl releases and hosting Artists to perform in their space, and this is where you come in.
Brave Island have partnered with Ventnor Exchange to find a local musician or band to perform as part of their Record Store Day lineup. This is always one of Ventnor Exchange’s busiest days of the year so this would be a perfect opportunity to get your music heard by some new people!

Help improve the Youth Trust’s offer for young people by completing this survey
The Isle of Wight Youth trust is an organisation that aims to empower young people to face life’s challenges by providing youth-led wellbeing and therapeutic support when it’s needed. To assist in this goal, every two years they put out a mental health census to better understand young people that live on our Island.
The Youth Trust are currently asking for young people to complete the Island Youth Mental Health census 2025, there are two online forms for two different age groups (8-11 & 11-25) and either of these should take no longer than 10 minutes.
You can find out more about the Youth Trust by visiting their Instagram page, where you will also find a link that will take you to the surveys.

Funding available for young content creators
The New Forest National Park Authority is offering funds of up to £150 to support 16-30 year-olds to produce digital, climate and nature-focused content. Their website says the content can be “video, audio or photography, should be social media-focused, community-based and appeal to other young people”. Applications are open now and will close at midday on 31st March.

Brand new work placements now available!
Brave Island have just announced two brand new work experience placements at two different organisations. The first is a five-day, expenses paid Record Shop Assistant placement at Ventnor Exchange. Here you will assist the shop manager with preparing for Record Store Day, an annual celebration which will see limited edition record releases and live music.
The other is a six-month Assistant Curator Placement with Ventnor Heritage Centre, where you will care for and maintain their library of artefacts, digitise oral history tapes and contribute towards a project around shops and premises in the town.
These placements are ideal for someone who is just getting into the world of work, maybe you’ve struggled to find a way in to your ideal career and this could be the stepping stone you need to get your foot in the door.
